Collective Dreaming is a theatrical production that unites the relationships of mediums such as performance, sound art, sculpture, and garments with their narrative possibilities. It is a Gesamtkunstwerk —— a total work of art. I make wearable sculptures to create characters, install stage sculptures to build the environment, and form narratives to guide the plot. I ask my performers to react with the surroundings rather than act. In these fabricated scenes, the feelings and emotions of our performing human bodies are authentic.


Emphasizing the quality of collectiveness, this theatrical production splices inspiration from multiple artifacts including “the Circular Ruins” by Jorge Luis Borges and “Icarus” by Yukio Mishima. The story depicts a dream in which a woman is created. From her physical body to language, the woman is completed by the imagination of a collective.
